The official The Vampire Diaries site wrote a whole “Ode to Jeremy Gilbert”
Jeremy Gilbert – The Newest Member of the Handsome Gentlemen’s Club.
If furious tears are rolling down your cheeks and singeing your skin, and the piercing sensation of rage coupled with grief is causing your heart to capsize within the very depths of your mediastinum, then you probably have heard the sad outcome of The Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 15. Jeremy Gilbert is dead and not even his once foolproof magical ring can bring him back to the land of the living.
The beloved character, played by dashing and talented cast member Steven R. McQueen for nearly four whole seasons of TVD, was truly a fan-favorite. Sure he had his set of flaws — he never did end up falling for that Salvatore charm and he caused Aunt Jenna considerable stress in Season 1. However, much like his arms and torso did in Season 4, Jeremy shaped up quite nicely once his priorities changed and he began to value those who supported him through thick and thin and believed in his worth. He made his debut on the show as an emo, law-breaking, weed-smoking punk and he grew into a courageous and compassionate young wood-chopping man.
And just like every Mystic Falls resident we’ve come to adore over the years, Jeremy has proven time and time again to be a person of many complex layers. When was fulfilling his hunter duties as a member of the Brotherhood of the Five, we basked in his agility, power and determination to train diligently and battle the forces of darkness. When he was falling head over heels for a local lady, — whether it was Vicki Donovan, Anna, or Bonnie Bennett — his ability to open up and to love without boundaries tantalized our very beings. When he was in pure “Elena Gilbert’s younger brother” mode we saw his protective nature and genuine appreciation for family shine through. Whenever he was hanging out at his house playing XBox with Matt Donovan, we caught glimpse of his adorable sense of humor and his playfulness. When he was in the presence of the town’s freshest and most vulnerable orphan — April Young — we witnessed his kindness and his empathy. And although he wasn’t Employee of the Month by any means, he sure did make for great eye candy at the Mystic Grill. (As for his scholarly ambitions, we’ll pretend we had perfect attendance and always completed his homework assignments on time.)
