The Vampire Diaries has officially set its 2014 return, and it’s going to be epic. Why? Because TVD is kicking off the new year with its milestone 100th episode! The Vampire Diaries will return with its 100th episode — “500 Years of Solitude” — on Thursday, January 23, 2014.
Unfortunately, this means we’ll have to wait five weeks for an all-new episode of The Vampire Diaries after the show heads into its winter hiatus after Season 5, Episode 10 (“Fifty Shades of Grayson”) on December 12. But the awesomeness that awaits us in Episode 11 will surely be worth the wait.
We already know that Sara Canning (Aunt Jenna) will return for the episode and it seems likely that Joseph Morgan’s (Klaus Mikaelson) appearance will coincide with the climactic ep — but we doubt they’ll be the only familiar faces in town. We also know there’s a scene in the episode that will bring the entire cast together, and as per usual, “death is knocking at the window” in the 100th episode.
Plus, given the episode’s title, we know “500 Years of Solitude” will focus on the life of Katherine Pierce, who may be running out of time by Episode 11. It was revealed that the cure that turned Katherine back into a human after 500 years of vampirism was slowly but surely sucking the life out of her. Her accelerated aging is sure to kill her in the next few months, which makes us think the 100th episode will feature Katherine’s death.
We’ll have to wait until January 2014 to see if our prediction is correct, but for now, it looks like Katherine’s time on TVD is running out. Unless, of course, her daughter Nadia can help figure out a way to stop the aging — but first, she would have to apologize to Nadia for being a hands-off mom.
But then again, we have two more episodes of TVD to watch and analyze before the big 1-0-0 in 2014, and as we know, a lot can happen in Mystic Falls in two episodes.
