The (fake) blood splattered on Ian's face makes us think that more drama is to come for his character and it appears there could also be some drama ahead for Damon's relationship with Elena, played by Nina Dobrev.
Talking about the show and what the future holds for Damon and Elena in Mystic Falls in a video interview posted on TVfanatic.com, Ian who split from Nina Dobrev earlier this year, could be seen saying:
"In Mystic Falls he did get her and he's lucky to have that experience but in Mystic Falls..."
He then went on to add: "Relationships are hard in life. Relationships are really hard in Mystic Falls because if you don't have conflict, you have no drama. If you have no drama, you have no TV show so relationships don't last that long in Mystic Falls."
"We are not short on drama," Ian added.
